Escape to the tranquil banks of the Ngarenanyuki River, flowing from the slopes of Mount Meru through beautiful farmland north of Arusha. Enjoy a peaceful nature walk along the river, spotting birds and butterflies in the surrounding forest. Try your hand at trout fishing in the cool, clear waters - this area is one of the few places in Tanzania where rainbow trout thrive. Enjoy a riverside picnic lunch and, if you catch any trout, have it grilled fresh on the spot. A wonderfully relaxing alternative to safari.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

7:30 AM: Hotel pickup and drive north from Arusha through farmland and Maasai plains toward the foothills of Mount Meru (approx. 1 hr). 8:45 AM: Arrive at the Ngarenanyuki River - cold, clear water flowing down from Meru's slopes, one of the few trout streams in Tanzania. 9:00 AM: Start with a 1.5-hour guided nature walk along the shaded riverbank - excellent for birdwatching (malachite kingfisher, mountain wagtail, olive thrush) and spotting butterflies in the dappled light. 10:30 AM: Fishing gear setup and a briefing on fly and spin casting. 11:00 AM: 2-hour trout fishing session in the pools, guided by a local angler who knows every hidden spot. Catch-and-release optional - or keep your catch for lunch! 1:00 PM: Riverside picnic lunch - any caught trout is grilled over a fire on the spot and served with salad, chapati and chilled drinks. 2:30 PM: Relaxation time by the water or short walk to a small waterfall upstream. 3:30 PM: Depart. Return to Arusha by approximately 4:30 PM.
