Mount Meru Day Hike

6:30 AM: Early hotel pickup and drive to Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park (approx. 45 min). 7:30 AM: Park registration and briefing, meet your armed ranger escort (required on Meru's lower slopes due to wildlife). 8:00 AM: Begin trekking across open grassland and acacia woodland - prime wildlife terrain where you'll often walk within sight of giraffe, buffalo, warthog and zebra grazing peacefully. 10:00 AM: Enter the dense montane forest with towering strangler figs, hanging lichens and the calls of colobus monkeys above. 11:30 AM: Steep switchbacks up toward the Miriakamba area and a ridge viewpoint at approximately 2,514m. 12:30 PM: Packed lunch at the viewpoint - spectacular vistas of Mount Meru's ash cone and, on clear days, Kilimanjaro floating on the horizon. 1:30 PM: Begin descent via the same trail (2.5-3 hrs), watching for wildlife now more active in the afternoon. 4:30 PM: Exit at Momella Gate. Return to Arusha by approximately 5:30 PM.
