Lake Duluti is a beautiful crater lake nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru, just a short drive from Arusha. This half-day excursion combines a guided forest walk around the lake with a canoe trip on its calm waters. The surrounding forest is home to blue monkeys, bushbucks, and over 130 bird species including kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. Paddle across the serene lake while your guide points out wildlife along the forested shores. Perfect for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

8:00 AM (morning) or 1:00 PM (afternoon): Hotel pickup and short drive east of Arusha to Lake Duluti (approx. 15 min), a small volcanic crater lake at the foot of Mount Meru. Meet your local forest guide at the lakeshore. 1.5-hour nature walk through the protected forest reserve encircling the lake - binoculars at the ready for 130+ bird species including malachite kingfisher, African fish eagle, pied kingfisher and great cormorant. Keep watch for blue monkeys leaping between the fig trees and bushbucks grazing in the clearings. 1-hour guided canoe trip across the calm lake waters - peaceful, with reflections of Mount Meru on a clear day. Paddle past the forested shores where monitor lizards sunbake on low branches. Light refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh fruit) at the lakeside picnic area. Return to Arusha after approximately 3.5 hours.
