Overview

Spend a day with two of Tanzania's most fascinating peoples. The Hadzabe, near Lake Eyasi, are one of Africa's last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes - a small community still living much as their ancestors did 10,000 years ago. The Datoga are skilled blacksmiths and pastoralists, famed for their intricate beadwork and brass jewellery. A respectful, authentic cultural exchange that supports both communities directly.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

5:30 AM: Very early hotel pickup in Arusha for the long drive west toward Lake Eyasi (approx. 4 hours). 9:30 AM: Arrive at the Hadzabe camp - greeted by the community in their thorny scrub-bush home. Join them on a morning hunting walk with handmade bows and poison-tipped arrows; learn how they read tracks, dig for tubers and start fire from sticks. 11:30 AM: Watch the men return with their catch (often birds, baboons or small antelope), prepared and shared around the fire. 12:30 PM: Picnic lunch in the bush. 1:30 PM: Drive 30 minutes to a Datoga homestead - meet the blacksmiths who craft arrowheads and brass jewellery from melted-down scrap, see the women's elaborate beadwork. 3:00 PM: Brief market visit if time permits. 3:30 PM: Begin the drive back to Arusha. 7:30 PM: Drop-off at your hotel.
