The recommended 7-day Rongai Route - quiet, dry and well-acclimatized.
The 7-day Rongai Route adds an extra acclimatization day at Mawenzi Tarn to the standard itinerary, raising the summit success rate. Approaching from the dry northern slopes near the Kenyan border, this is the recommended choice during the rainy seasons or for trekkers seeking solitude. The descent uses the Marangu route, completing a satisfying 'traverse' of the mountain.

Brief afternoon showers possible at lower altitudes. Summit conditions usually still good. Quieter trails.
Slippery, muddy trails and clouds obscuring summit views. Higher rate of altitude-related issues from cold-wet exposure. Not recommended.
